[30 May 2010|09:43pm] welcome to gaffney, south carolina, home to a water tower painted to resemble a giant peach, an abandoned nuclear power plant turned abandoned james cameron film set, approximately 14, 000 residents and...not a lot else. we do have our own (country music) radio station, though, and a wal-mart, too! okay, so bumbling metropolis, gaffney's not, but it is a friendly, tight-knit southern community where life moves just a little bit slower and everyone more-or-less knows everyone. so, stop in for a visit or call it home. either way, we'll be glad to have ya! [28 May 2010|09:03pm] 1. first and foremost, the most important rule (other than don't be a d bag, but we hope that goes without saying at this point): activity. you must have one substantial update once a month, to be linked in the drop off post. to qualify as substantial, it can't be a string of one liners or a couple of unedited images. if it shows you've put in effort, it qualifies. but we expect you to use your journal for something other than just saving yourself from being removed when it comes time to see activity checks. to encourage this, we've got a big box of goodies for you over at theledger for you to put together shorter, interactive posts. there are templates (for twitter, flickr, craigslist, formspring, post it notes, text messages, voicemail, etc.), but you can certainly post other things: receipts, playlists, fliers, posters, and so on. anything random you can think of! one of the chief rules of story writing is show, don't tell, and while we love and encourage the standard paragraph format entries, we're looking to give you guys something new to have fun with to keep things interesting. 2. journal names should contain only your character's name, with no extra letters or characters. aim screen names should contain your characters' first and/or last name and any other word your heart desires. 3. like we mentioned above: please don't be a d bag. ic drama is delightful, ooc drama should be saved for the hills. you don't need to run any ic drama by us, but we expect you to be realistic. pregnancies last 9 months, not everyone was a prom queen, not everyone that was adopted or in the foster care system is horribly traumatized, etc. if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to address them in the drop box. 4. to join this community you must have the following completed: one threaded or aim scene (which can be posted in your journal, the drop box, or pmed), a first entry OR a character biography (2 - 5 substantial paragraphs giving an idea of your character), and a connection to another character in the community by posting in tourdepeach, pbads, rps, etc. make sure you have your character journal and screen name all set up before you apply and you are good to go!
